RIMTA offers exciting opportunities for youth interested in exploring careers in the marine trades industry.

Three youth learning about the building of wooden boats.

RIMTA coordinates youth training programs focused on career awareness, career exploration, and career readiness. We partner with schools throughout the state and collaborate with training providers such as the Herreshoff Marine Museum in Bristol, RI and the IYRS School of Technology and Trades in Newport, RI.

Program Highlights:

  • Skill Development: Students develop practical skills and gain hands-on experience in the marine trades by building and launching small boats or working with composites.
  • Work Experience: Programs replicate real work environments where students are expected to show up on time, work effectively as part of a team and meet project deadlines.
  • Career Exposure: Participants gain valuable insights into careers in the marine trades, helping them explore potential career paths in this exciting industry.
  • Work-Readiness Skills: Students also learn essential work-readiness skills, including how to write resumes and prepare for job interviews, equipping them for future employment opportunities.
