  • Economic Impact Study: Conducted in collaboration with members of the University of Rhode Island faculty, our economic-impact study released in fall 2018 provides comprehensive insights into the jobs, gross sales, and economic impacts of the R.I. marine trades. The detailed analysis study breaks down the Rhode Island marine industry into subsectors, offering valuable insights into the distribution and composition of the industry, enabling us to understand our strengths and opportunities for growth.

  • By the Numbers: The Rhode Island marine industry generates $2.649 billion in annual gross sales and employs 13,337 people. Representing approximately 4.7% of the firms in the Rhode Island economy, our statewide marine-trades sector is a vital driver of economic prosperity and job creation in the region.

  • NMMA Infographic: The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) continuously monitors legislation and regulatory issues in all 50 states, pursuing the marine industry’s objectives and defending it against potentially harmful government initiatives. NMMA has developed infographics to illustrate the economic impact of recreational boating for the U.S. in each state to educate the public and key decision-makers on regulatory issues.

  • The Composites Industry Sector: The Rhode Island Composites Sector is a vibrant group of businesses spanning boat building and repair, composites fabrication and manufacturing, materials suppliers and professional service firms including engineering, design and consulting. These firms utlize composite materials including carbon fiber and fiberglass in a variety of industries such as aerospace, automotive, construction, consumer goods, defense, energy, marine, recreation and transportation.

  • RI Grow Blue Economy Initiative: RIMTA is actively involved in the RI Grow Blue Economy Initiative focusing on the economic potential of Rhode Island’s ocean industries. 2030 BLUE ECONOMY ACTION PLAN
  • The Ocean Tech Hub: RIMTA is part of the consortium-led initiative with a diverse and growing membership representing industry, labor, research, academia, associations, government and community partners based in the RI-Southeastern MA region of Southeastern New England. Through this strategic interstate effort, Consortium members commit to activating the ocean technology ecosystem to develop and deploy a technology-based, globally competitive Hub that addresses economic and national security needs for the United States.
