Launch Operators
Champlin’s Marina located in Block Island, RI is looking for Launch Operators to pilot our water taxis for the upcoming 2010 summer season. Launch Operators are responsible for operating inspected commercial vessels used for carrying passengers from moored and anchored boats within the Great Salt Pond to the dock. Launch operators will be expected to perform the general maintenance on the Launch Vessels while maintaining USCG records. The Launches must be kept in a clean, tidy, and safe condition at all times. Launch Operators will also be scheduled to work as members of our dock staff when the launches are not operating.
Candidates for these positions must have at least a Limited Master License issued by the USCG. Our launches are inspected vessels so all applicants must be willing to take a drug test and launch drivers will be enrolled into a random drug testing program while in our employ. Candidates must also be able to maintain a neat and well-groomed appearance. Being able to check fluids, perform oil changes, and understand the basic operation and components of a diesel engine propulsion system are required. This job entails a lot of interaction with customers so an outgoing friendly customer service oriented personality is a plus.
Champlin’s Marina has housing available on the resort premises and compensation will be determined based on experience. The bulk of the Launch Operators’ compensation will be in the form of gratuities from patrons. This is an excellent summer job for either college students on break or anyone interested in getting more involved in the marine industry.
