Dear RIMTA Members, Marina Owner/Operator,

Last year The Rhode Island Marine Trades Association negotiated an extended deadline for the implementation of Pressure Wash Water Discharge elimination. This was done to permit the development of new methodologies for treatment. The agreement requires RIMTA to hold a series of workshops to inform marina owner/operators of what is required and what technologies are now available to fulfill the requirements of the regulations.

The New Deadline is January 1, 2011

Providence Boat Show sellers eyeing big fish

POWER BOATS: The Providence Boat Show, which begins Jan. 7, will feature technology exhibits as well as boat vendors.

With the economy in the doldrums, this may not seem like the best time to buy a boat, but organizers of the Providence Boat Show, coming to the R.I. Convention Center Jan. 7 to Jan. 10, say there is no better time than now to make such a purchase because prices will only rise when the economy bounces back.

EPA expects to eventually green-light E15

Officials at the Port of Providence say traffic there remains on par with historic levels and is actually growing, even as declining imports hurt other ports. The Gypsum Integrity, left, recently arrived with 45,000 tons of coal, which was unloaded within 24 hours.

Gowrie Group receives national honor

For the third year in a row, Gowrie Group of Westbrook, Conn., was named to a national list of the Top 100 privately-held property/casualty agencies.

The firm also was ranked as the top agency in Connecticut for the second year, and was among the 45 companies on the list that actually grew its business, year over year, despite the economic recession.

At a 2007 boatbuilder’s conference, naval architect Lou Codega outlined strategies to build boats that operate more efficiently and burn less fuel. Build lighter, scale back accommodations, and use the latest propulsion technologies. That was the gist of his 45-minute presentation.

Local officials decry pro-LNG decision

FALL RIVER - A proposal for an offshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Fall River’s Mount Hope Bay was approved by the U.S. Coast Guard yesterday, The Herald News reported.

According to The Herald News, the Coast Guard’s approval was affirmed in a letter of recommendation from Raymond J. Perry, the Coast Guard captain of the port for southeast New England, to Kimberly D. Bose, secretary of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
